Electronic Brake Controller:
This is a device that is connected inside the vehicle. The device communicates to the trailer the necessary amount to apply to the trailer brakes when the vehicles brakes are applied. You can check your vehicles owner manual to determine if your vehicle is equipped with an Electronic Brake Controller.
Yes. Any trailer with a gross weight of 3,000 lbs or more must be equipped with brakes and those brakes must be able to be applied by the driver of the tow vehicle from the cab.
We highly recommend that the vehicle has a trailer brake installed. We will soon be offering a bluetooth brake controller in the near future for customers who don’t have one already installed. Customer assumes all responsibility if they choose to tow without a brake controller.
If your vehicle has a brake controller installed, it needs to be adjusted accordingly to prevent trailer tires from locking up and possibly losing control. Adjusting trailer brakes will prevent tire from “Flat spotting” which will be the customers responsibility to buy a new tire.
